PLACE Acquires Denver-Built Maxwell, a Mortgage Supplier to 400-Plus Institutions

The completed deal adds mortgage software and loan services to PLACE’s real-estate offerings. PLACE says existing Maxwell contracts and services will continue.

Denver-built mortgage technology company Maxwell has been acquired by PLACE, which announced the completed deal on September 24. PLACE says Maxwell serves more than 400 financial institutions. For those lenders, the ownership change brings their mortgage-services provider into a business with existing real-estate offerings.

The competitive move is the range of lender services PLACE gains. Its announcement lists Maxwell’s mortgage point-of-sale software, business intelligence, fulfillment, diligence and private-label origination services. PLACE can now offer those capabilities alongside its real-estate business, extending its role in work that connects lenders and real-estate professionals.

What PLACE says will stay in place

PLACE says Maxwell’s existing contracts, services and relationships will not be disrupted. That is the buyer’s assurance to institutions already using Maxwell, rather than a claim about outcomes observed after the acquisition. It gives current customers a concrete answer about their arrangements while ownership changes.

PLACE also says Maxwell helps facilitate more than $130 billion in transactions annually. That figure describes the stated value of transactions, not Maxwell’s revenue or what PLACE paid for the company. Along with the reported customer count, it shows the scale of the established lender business PLACE has acquired.
