Useful context starts with careful attention to the source material.
Sources and attribution
We favor primary sources: public data, official documents, research and the organizations responsible for the information. Our research records retain source material, and articles preserve relevant dates, geography, units and qualifications. We do not present a document summary as an interview or original on-the-ground reporting.
Facts, analysis and opinion
Our explanatory articles may include practical recommendations. We distinguish those recommendations from what a cited source establishes. We do not fabricate quotations, interviews, credentials, awards or evidence.
Company profiles and sponsored content
Company profiles are labeled within the article. Paid placements must be identified as sponsored content.
Editorial tools
AI-assisted tools may support research organization, drafting and editing. Tool-generated text is not itself a source. Public claims must be supported by source material or clearly identified as analysis. We do not use invented reporter identities.
Dates and updates
An article’s publication date is separate from the period covered by its source data. Material updates carry an updated date. A correction that changes the meaning of a published claim should explain the change within the article.
